There will be a traditional Navajo meal including mutton and fry bread followed by the showing of five documentary films on the lives of five Navajo elders. Then, the student filmmakers will talk briefly about their experiences. Hopefully, most of the featured elders will also be there to share their comments.
Following the premiere, the films will be archived at the Navajo Nation Museum, Navajo Nation Library and the libraries at Diné College and Winona State University. They will also be archived at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
The short, media feature versions of the films will be available for viewing on the Website of the WSU Mass Communication department: Winona360.org.
I'm a professor of Mass Communication at Winona State University in southeast Minnesota. I teach primarily journalism, photojournalism and public relations courses (profile photo by WSU Alumnus Nick Furlong).
